Description of services provided by elder care facilities

admin » 13 May 2009 » In Elderly Care »

As a person becomes older their capacity to care for their self becomes diminished. Elderly people have lower energy levels, impaired mobility, and difficulties thinking, which may make handling the tasks involved with living independently hard to complete adequately. Elder care facilities are homes built to assist an elderly person with some of activities that they may have difficulty performing. Twenty-four hour assistance is available, and the staff at Elder Care facilities are able to call for immediate medical attention if the elderly person requires it. Independent living homes are not for people who require constant medical care. Nursing homes are facilities that are more suited to provide constant medical care.

Elder Care Facilities usually have exercise equipment, libraries, common areas, a church, and a dinning area for use by residents. Residents have the choice of dinning in their own apartment or in the commons area. The facility may also have daily activities available to provide entertainment for the residents like yoga, swimming, and arts and crafts. Living in an elder care home provides an elderly person with people to interact with daily preventing isolation and possible depression that can result from isolation. Some assisted living facilities have young persons come and visit with the residents. Assisted living facilities will usually cost between fifteen hundred and six thousand dollars per month.

These homes are created with the intention of providing the occupants with the maximum amount of privacy and dignity. Rooms resemble a condominium and will have a kitchen, private bathroom, living room, and sleeping space. Room cleaning service, laundry, and other services are usually offered. Facilities are designed with extra room that will allow for use of wheelchairs and walkers. Medicine management may also be offered by the care facility. Arrangements for transportation to and from doctors appointments are another service offered by many elder care facilities.
